TEDxWilsonPark started with discussions about change. We noticed that our little corner of the world, the Shoals, has been growing. This small metro area nestled along the banks of the Tennessee River has a combination of music, arts and culture that rivals cities like Austin and Nashville, and now the word is getting out. But what has been the catalyst for this renaissance in the Renaissance City? Well, it appears to be a combination of "makers," who have been leaving their mark on the area. And we wanted to meet them, to get to know them and find out what it is about them and the area that has allowed their ideas to flourish. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxWilsonPark, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxWilsonPark event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.
