Substance Abuse Solutions for Today and the Rest of Your Child's LifeTeen and Family Services is committed to providing your teen and entire family the tools, skills and knowledge to deal with substance abuse problems in a holistic way. The mission of Teen and Family Services (TAFS) is to be a community of families growing and healing from the negative effects of teen substance use and other high-risk behaviors. TAFS has developed a research-based program that has helped thousands of teens reclaim their lives. The Alternative Peer Group Model (APG) that TAFS utilizes, provides a safe and sober environment for teens to socialize after school, in school, and on weekends. These students receive daily support by peers that can relate to common struggles and challenges. Through this supportive environment, teens are encouraged to make positive life choices and participate in recovery-related social activities. Understanding that substance abuse is prevalent throughout all socioeconomic strata, TAFS has expanded its efforts to reach low-income populations. TAFS work serves many of Houston's most challenged and underserved communities, such as Kashmere Gardens, Sunnyside, South Park, Near Northside, Sharpstown, and 5th Ward. As a result of our outreach to pockets of poverty, TAFS expanded its services to include adolescents and families in outlying rural communities surrounding Tomball, where underserved low-income populations lack behavioral health services as much as their urban peers. TAFS also serves teens and families at its original location in the Memorial/Spring Branch area and in South Houston at Jones Memorial Church located on Almeda/Genoa. The TAFS client base is made up of young people between the ages of 13 and 18 and their family members. Please call 713-464-3950 to make an appointment for your free evaluation or visit our website at www.tafs.org. We work on a sliding scale and welcome families from all neighborhoods in Houston.
