TEK4Change is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the advancement of troubled middle and high school youth in the Greater Richmond area. The program will create relationships with local school districts, businesses, city and state leaders and the juvenile court system. Our goal is to promote a commitment to young people that will promote positive changes, strong interpersonal skills, and instill a sense of hope in the future. We can accomplish this through training and development of technological skills that can a provide sense of individual accomplishment be reestablished that will give youth the opportunity to succeed.Through multiple failures in the classroom and the development of destructive behaviors, at-risk young people have lost faith in the system have very little respect for authority and are constantly looking for ways to belong or fit in. This can cause the teens to seek acceptance any way they can. When you partner this with the current generation's exposure to hatred and violence it is a recipe for disaster and could lead to gang activity, incarceration or worse Now this otherwise bright student could end up just another statistic. They may never be granted the opportunities that await them if they are successful in putting their lives together. To accomplish this goal, young people must be in a caring, inclusive learning environment that promotes their best effort and reinforces personal respect.TEK4Change is a program that is in direct response to the growing number of young people that are either falling through the cracks at school or are already entangled with the juvenile court system. The goal of the program is to identify youths who are going to have a turbulent transition to adulthood and offer positive support system to avoid the pitfalls that can derail their lives. The focus is slightly different at each level but the goal remains the same; empower the young person to make positive changes in his/her life.
