Television Sydney (TVS) is the only free to air, not for profit community television licence holder in Sydney. Broadcasting from the University of Western Sydney on digital channel 44 since 2006, the TVS broadcast footprint covers the Greater Western Sydney area to parts of the Illawarra in the south, some areas of Gosford in the north, and Blue Mountains in the west. Television Sydney encourages innovative program styles and seeks creative content showcasing emerging talent and community passions. It is also a resource to promote community involvement working with students from the University of Western Sydney.TVS is focused on broadcasting and promoting thoughtful and original content, featuring issues that are often ignored in the mainstream media. It promotes harmony and diversity that contribute to a cohesive, inclusive and culturally rich Australian community, and pursues the principles of democracy, access and equity, especially for people and in issues under-represented in other media. In addition to working with community producers, TVS produces its own content. Recent home-made programs and series include the children's series Enquiring Minds, the inspirational 10-part series Models of Achievement and the pilot three-part Indigenous Models of Achievement, student program The Why Generation, and the TV documentary Kokoda: In the Footsteps of the Brave made in conjunction with Panthers Group.The University of Western Sydney supports TVS through provision of facilities and opportunities for students and academic involvement in programming production.
