Tony Houz Children's Foundation is a non-governmental organisation and society for community service for students at Stellenbosch University that creates programmes to support schools and communities in townships. The programmes are centered around providing essential academic assistance and relief interventions for underprivileged students and their families. Recognising the deep socio-economic inequalities that exist in neighbouring communities of Stellenbosch - and townships across South Africa, the Foundation also aims to increase student awareness and activism by being involved in social development in the poor communities surrounding the university.The organisation has thus far had three primary projects, which are all at Ikaya Primary School in Kayamandi township. They are the academic tutoring (English and Mathematics), the fundraising and donations which go the school and the learners' parents, and lastly, the vegetable gardening project which is run by university student volunteers and a group of learners from Ikaya called the Soul Buddyz.In 2018, the Foundation expanded into subcommittees in order to optimise our student capacity and to increase the effectiveness of our programmes. Noting the importance of the holistic development of learners in primary school, we introduced a number of extracurricular activities in order to stimulate the learners through exploring different activities and supplementary interventions to improve their learning.
