The Beach Clean Network Limited is a not for profit organisation set up by Martin Dorey and Tab Parry to encourage beach cleaning. The Beach Clean Network Limited is responsible for the #2minutebeachclean, #2minutelitterpick, #2minutestreetclean and #2minutesolution.After the severe North Atlantic storms in the winter of 2013/2014 left the coastline around the UK littered with marine plastics, Martin came up with the idea of doing just two minutes of beach cleaning at a time, but every time, and began using the hashtag #2minutebeachclean on Twitter and Instagram. Since then many thousands of hash tagged posts have appeared on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter from every continent. Dedicated social media accounts followed soon after. In 2014, a #2minutebeachclean station was trialled in Bude, Cornwall in the UK, resulting in the amount of litter found on regular beach cleans reduce by 61% within a year. 2017 saw the creation of the #2minutebeachclean app available to download on Android and iOS which enables users to map and post photographs of their litter picks and clean ups.In 2018, the hashtags #2minutelitterpick for open spaces and #2minutestreetclean for towns and cities were launched, together with cleaning stations for each. Now, over 750 cleaning stations for beaches, open spaces, towns and cities in the UK have gone into production, with more having been launched in Greece, Portugal and shortly in Cyprus.2018 also saw Martin's book No.More.Plastic. (Ebury Press) published, providing a handy guide to the #2minutesolution with tips on reducing dependency on plastics and single use plastics in particular.2020 had an exciting start when, after years of hard work and dedication, we were finally able to celebrate becoming a charity (The 2 Minute Foundation). Have you got 2 minutes? Of course you have.
