On the 1st September 2015 Ben Smith began "one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences of my life" He will be undertaking a "World Record" attempt which will see him run 401 marathons in 401 consecutive days in aid of two amazing charities ‘Stonewall' and ‘Kidscape'. Both these charities work tirelessly to support award winning initiatives which really get to the heart of bullying in our UK schools. The aim was to raise £250,000 to help support both these charities carry on the amazing work they do. We are happy to announce we absolutely smash that target and raise over £300,000.The ChallengeThe aim of ‘The 401 Challenge' is to raise awareness surrounding the issues of bullying in the UK. With a collaborative approach to planning this challenge, the involvement of the charities involved, educational establishments, running clubs and through the use of social media, we have already started to spread the word with fantastic engagement and passion already being shown in the challenge. Each marathon that I run will involve people throughout the country; be that as a fellow runner joining in, a novice wanting to run some of the distance to keep fit, or simply as a donator to the event. All in all this will spread the word that bullying in today's society is not welcome and doesn't have to form part of life.To date, the support from sponsors, friends and family and even strangers has been overwhelming.
