The American Microbiome Institute a leader in microbiome science, with the goal to help drive a paradigm shift in our approach to various diseases and disorders.Since the microbiome field is still emerging, there is abundant opportunity to establish new normsaround collaboration, transparency, and the use of technology. The AMI promotes innovation andexpertise, fill knowledge gaps in the microbiome field, provides a platform for the sharing of findings, andstandardizes metrics and research methodologies so that research can build on the findings of otherprojects.The AMI funds innovative research that allows scientists to pursue high-risk projects that may not be funded by traditional funding mechanisms. The types of projects are those that may open up entirely new avenues of research, like the development of tools and techniques that could be critical to the advancement of microbiome research, and the development of therapeutic strategies that utilize the human microbiome.To help raise greater awareness and popular support for the field, the AMI performs public outreach and education campaigns through traditional vehicles such as our daily blog, but also new avenues, such as our microbiome podcast. The AMI also promotes critical information sharing and builds resources that enable the sharing of existing technologies, research practices, and resources that have been developed in laboratories around the world.The AMI works with industry, academia, and other partners to advocate for the advancement of thefield, promoting an overall awareness and appreciation for the importance of the microbiome.
