The Anthony Howard Award is open to aspiring journalists aged under 27 on the closing date of entry.Applicants are required to propose a subject for a 5,000 word essay on British politics and government, displaying the qualities that Howard most looked for in a journalist: flair, imagination and wit. They should outline how they would propose to research the essay and they should include an example of their writing, published or unpublished, and a short CV with contact details.The successful candidate will receive £25,000 and will research and write the 5,000-word essay while undertaking three internships, each of 14 weeks' duration, at the Times, the Observer and the New Statesmen.Employees of The Times, the Observer and the New Statesman (or their relatives) are not eligible to enter.
