Clinical physiologists specialise in the physiological measurement and function for the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease, and also undertake research to further the evidence-base. The ACCP provides recognition, facilitates communication, and improves standards of practice for Australian Clinical Physiologists.The professions affiliated with the ACCP are cardiac physiology, neurophysiology, respiratory science and sleep science. Each profession has their own professional association:• Cardiac Physiology: Professionals in Cardiac Sciences Australia (PiCSA)• Neurophysiology: Association of Neurophysiological Technologists of Australia (ANTA)• Respiratory Science: Australian and New Zealand Society of Respiratory Science (ANZSRS)• Sleep Science: Australia and New Zealand Sleep Science Association (ANZSSA)ACCP accreditation is now available via a Grandfathering process for experienced clinical physiologists (www.theaccp.org.au). At the end of the Grandfathering period accreditation will be available for new clinical physiologists who meet the minimum requirements for entry into their profession and eligibility for membership to their professional association. Accredited clinical physiologists will be added to the ACCP public register of Accredited Clinical Physiologists. Successful applicants are permitted to identify and promote themselves as an ‘Accredited Clinical Physiologist'. Each year clinical physiologists will need to re-apply for accreditation by showing evidence of continued clinical practice and continuing education.
