Every time a person interacts with a computer we lose speed. Moving the mouse around, typing and clicking on buttons are basic tasks that could be performed instantaneously by the computer itself. Programming a computer to do everything a human does is unfeasible, for the moment at least, but when a person is spending over 30 minutes repeating a task it becomes cost effective to program the computer to do the bulk of the work. We look for tasks that take a short time to program but have a huge impact on efficiency, as we automate more and more of these small tasks we begin to build a system that can take entire workloads away from people. Once the automated workload is stable it can be maintained by anyone in the office.
