The Bard's Town Theatre is a 501c3 nonprofit theatre located on Bardstown Road in the Louisville, KY artistic borough known as "The Highlands." In its first year, The Bard's Town Theatre came out swinging, being hailed "a force to be reckoned with," earning a "Best Theatrical Production" award for its production of "Chasing Ophelia," and also a "Best Live Theatre" nod for its work overall. Since opening its doors, The Bard's Town Theatre has produced world premieres of a host of award-winning plays, including CHASING OPHELIA, STRIKE ZONE, THE SNOWFLAKE THEORY, THE KINGS OF CHRISTMAS, MISSES STRATA, DRINKING PERFUME (and more), and has been on of the first companies in the country to produce some of the best New American Plays of the past decade, including A BRIGHT NEW BOISE, RAPTURE BLISTER BURN, THE (CURIOUS CASE OF THE) WATSON INTELLIGENCE, MAD GRAVITY, RX, and more. Bard Theatre even found the time to take part in the largest election year theatre festival in history with 44 PLAYS FOR 44 PRESIDENTS. Bard Theatre's mission? To nurture, develop, and produce new work, providing an outlet for new voices. The Bard's Town Theatre puts particular emphasis on producing new works by Kentucky playwrights, serving as a platform for these voices to be heard, and making access to these voices available to members of our community of all economic levels, providing low-cost and even free tickets to every production.
