THE BOOKSTORE was a community project that was providing accommodation to creatives in partnership with the housing corporations Ymere and Stadgenoot. The participants in the project contributed actively to the community in exchange for affordable housing.This innovative construction allowed the 65 international participants to further develop their professional practice. THE BOOKSTORE accommodated designers, artists, writers and musicians. Within this remarkable group, a continuous exchange of expertise and talent has taken place. In addition to the regular participants, THE BOOKSTORE also offered three "artist in residence" places. These provided artists with living and working space for 3 to 6 months.The development of effective approaches to social entrepreneurship was an important objective of THE BOOKSTORE. By establishing a self-regulating system, THE BOOKSTORE provided a sustainable solution to the crisis and dwindling subsidies.www.bookstoreproject.nlinfo@bookstoreproject.nl
