Research - Pasadena, California, United States
Each year, 45,000 children in the United States are diagnosed with epilepsy. For some, the seizures are so frequent and severe that they are unresponsive to a cocktail of anti-epileptic drugs. If the seizures originate on one side of the brain, then a cerebral hemispherectomy - a procedure where half the brain is removed - is performed in an attempt to stop the seizures. We are a non-profit corporation that initiates and funds research into neurorehabilitation after cerebral hemispherectomy, establishes rehabilitation programs, and advocates on behalf of children and adults impacted by the surgery. If a child with half a brain can do it, imagine the answer they hold for others impacted by cerebral palsy, autism, and learning disabilities.
