Music - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States
A collection of Western Pennsylvania's finest brass musicians, The Brass Roots is committed to translating the experience of the symphony hall to the more intimate setting of chamber music through dynamic musicianship and innovative programming. Quickly becoming a Pittsburgh favorite, the Brass Roots is noted for the brilliance and power of their sound. The genesis for The Brass Roots was born out of the relationship of four friends and colleagues who had collaborated extensively while pursuing graduate degrees at Carnegie Mellon University. Representing a new entrepreneurial generation of musicians, Henry Attaway, Jonathan Speek, Chris Pearlberg, and David Gardner set out to build an organization that would showcase the tremendous brass talent found in Pittsburgh and help to reshape the role of music in the community. To accomplish this feat, they successfully recruited some of the most capable musicians in the Steel City. The ensemble makes its home at Pittsburgh's Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall, where they present concerts in the memorial's historic 2300-seat auditorium. The Brass Roots are proud to serve as SSMH's Ensemble-In-Residence, regularly performing at galas, Hall of Valor inductions, and the annual Memorial Day Celebration.
