Mental Health Care - Ben Lomond, California, United States
This project is a response to both our changing climate and the critical need we have to find meaningful ways to heal our relationship with the soil, ourselves, and each other. There are two components to the project. First, ordinary people have the opportunity to offset their environmental impact by becoming Care Forest Members, shifting the value of the Redwood trees on a timber lot from lumber to carbon sequestration. Second, the forest serves as a space for people living with trauma, grief, and loss to find respite, emotional support, and spiritual direction. The positive impact of trees and intentional connection with nature on mood and emotional well-being is being recognized, so it's an exciting time to pioneer the first therapeutic forest in the United States while offering people an opportunity to move from climate crisis overwhelm to action.
