The Canine Aides for Reintegration and Emotional Support Project provides canine aides to Combat Veterans, First Responders, and victims of violence and abuse. This service is free to qualifying individuals. The CARE Project also offers group dog training as well as private dog training classes to the general community at an affordable rate. Proceeds from these classes go toward supporting the Canine Aide program.Development of The CARE Project began in early 2014 and was fueled by an awareness and concern for our veterans suffering from PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and other combat related disabilities as well as for the large population of destitute dogs in Detroit. We believed that by promoting the mutually beneficial bond between human and canine that we could alleviate both of these issues. Inspired by this belief, we set out to devise a program to train rescued canines to provide emotional support and service to these veterans. Our research led to an identification of two other populations that could benefit from similar types of canine aides and so, we expanded our program to offer assistance to First Responders and victims of violence and abuse.
