In 2011, we originally started fragging corals as a hobby and to meet people locally who kept marine aquariums.Knowing every frag was saving corals from the reef. In April 2019 we set up The Coral Centre as a business and moved to a small unit and focused on building a sustainable UK grown coral supplier. Our systems are expanding on a regular basis, we are currently running at over 465 sq.ft of growing space. Making us arguably the largest professional coral supplier in the UK and it doesn't stop there.... that's just a splash in the ocean!!! We launched our research system looking at how we can promote coral growth & feed back our findings to aid the repairing of coral reefs around the world. Our focus is corals and for this reason, we DO NOT sell dry goods or Marine Fish, but we can recommend local shops who have the items in stock. Animal Welfare licenceIt is worth noting, we do not qualify for an Animal Welfare licence (Pet Shop Licence), only selling vertebrates eg fish is covered by legislation... its a bit like going for your car driving test on a bicycle! Our practices of coral care and water quality are above and beyond what is required to hold a licence if we sold Fish. Here at Coral HQ, we come under Winchester City Council and we have had various conversations with the Environmental health team (who issue the licences) about our project, you can contact them on 01962 848097 (or email eh@winchester.gov.uk) if you have any queries.
