The County of Greene operates as a local government employer. The Greene County Board of Commissioners, who are elected to serve for a term of four years, are responsible for the administrative affairs, of County of Greene including the approval of the recruitment, hiring and employment of the county staff. Greene County's daily operations of county government are administrated via five primary departments: Finance & Administration, Law & Order, Human Services, Economic Development, and Recreation. Each of these departments manages a number of other departments which provide direct services to the residents of Greene County through a workforce of approximately 300+ full-time, part-time and temporary positions. The County workforce temporarily grows each summer due to additional Seasonal positions. Pennsylvania has 67 individual governmental units designated as counties.
