The Creative Department, Inc. was founded by Philip Eitzen and Charles Mackey in 1971. Phil and Chuck were both vice presidents and creative directors at N.W. Ayer & Son. The initial concept for The Creative Department, Inc. was to serve ad agencies and other clients as a creative resource for print and broadcast advertising. As the business developed, it evolved into a full-service corporate and marketing communications firm providing creative and production services for a broad spectrum of client projects in all media, including promotion materials, annual reports, corporate identity, employee communications, advertising and web site development. In 1977 James Jarratt joined the firm as an equal partner when Chuck Mackey resigned from the firm to open his own freelance writing business. In 1992 Jim Jarratt retired to pursue his interests in Real Estate. From 1992 until 1998 The Creative Department prospered under the sole-ownership of Phil, and the close collaboration and dedication of Claire Eitzen, the firm's office manager. In 1998 Philip Eitzen sold the business to his daughter Pam along with long-time employees Eugene Burns and Dale Parenti. From 1998 until 2012, Gene, Dale and Pam used their strong and varied talents to continue providing services to long-standing corporate clients while developing new clients and business. The Creative Department, Inc. was dissolved in 2012 and the former partners now operate independently.
