WHAT IS THE CURRY FOUNDATION? The Curry Foundation was started in May 2009 by Thomas M. Curry, Jr. when his friend was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. This young, hardworking couple had been financially crippled by this unexpected illness. Tom Curry wanted to help his friends financially so they could focus their time and energy on beating this cancer, and not worrying about losing their house, cars and good credit. His friend wanted to have treatment at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Texas but did not want to be away from his wife during the 4-6 month long treatment. And unfortunately, his wife Brittany could not afford to be with him because she needed to continue to work to pay their living expenses. To make matters worse, due to the bad economy, his employer told him that he could not afford to pay him during his absence. This meant that his wife was left trying to pay for their house, cars, utilities, food and astronomical medical bills on one salary! Tom Curry did not believe that his friends should be left to handle this challenge on their own! He believed that with a little help from the community, and our country, we can pull together and help them focus on getting better without having to worry about financial issues. Tom Curry believed that individually these challenges are enormous. But collectively, we can change their lives. There is strength in numbers and nobody should have to face this kind of battle alone! That is what this foundation is meant to do, organize the good and caring people of this country to pull together and provide emotional and financial support to those facing immense, unexpected challenges so they don't need to fight alone! He also believed that helping should come from the heart. The entire board is made up of caring people who donate their time to help others! That is why no member of the Curry Foundation receives compensation or a salary!
