Democracy House is a grass-roots movement dedicated to preserving and strengthening democratic systems and practices in Canada and around the world. We believe that democracy must be owned and defended by all people all the time in order for it to survive and thrive.Through a range of activities, events and platforms, Democracy House strives to encourage meaningful discussion and debate, provide educational opportunities, and promote respectful dialogue in both non-partisan and multi-partisan environments.We are united in the belief that now, more than ever, we must act to preserve democracy for future generations in the world. We understand that to succeed in this goal requires both non-partisan and multi-partisan engagement by people of all ages and from diverse backgrounds and perspectives. We are driven by the need to promote respectful dialogue from a variety of diverse sources. We believe that youth and young adults are critical to the future of healthy democracies and seek to engage these groups in both the organisation, and as the beneficiaries, of our programs and activitiesWe put action behind the continual renewal of democratic principles and institutions through advocacy and awareness. We encourage citizen participation in democratic renewal through the facilitation of engagement opportunities and on-going dialogue. By building strategic partnerships with like-minded organizations, we hope to build a mass movement around mutual respect for individual rights, democratic renewal, and a commitment to creating opportunities where passionate advocates for democracy can meet, network and share ideas.Through building bridges with others, we come to better understand ourselves and our place in the world to ensure that democracy is strong both here in Canada and around the world.
