Located 26 miles across the coast of Southern California on Santa Catalina Island, The Edgewater Hotel and building has had a long history stretching just over 90 years. Owner Vincent Petrich bought land from William Wrigley, Jr in the 1920's and first built the Vincent Apartments in 1922. Later, the apartments were converted into hotel rooms and it became The Edgewater Hotel. Vince and wife Louise Taylor opened and operated a variety of businesses within The Edgewater Building. It has been home to The Brazil Club, The Silver Dollar, a tobacco store, an ice cream parlor, John's Cafe, a Pool Hall, Weezies' Basket Bazaar, Weezies', and the oldest souvenir shop in Avalon, The Catalina Souvenir Shop. Bill, Louise's son, opened the Catalina Souvenir Shop in 1947 and his wife Beverly continued to run it for over 60 years. Four generations have owned and continue to operate businesses within The Edgewater Building.Today, The Edgewater is a small eight room boutique hotel located in the heart of Avalon. This boutique hotel, just steps away from the Water's edge, front street shopping and restaurants, offers two spacious deluxe Ocean View Suites and six well-appointed Fountain-View Rooms.
