The Eli J. & Phyllis N. Segal Citizen Leadership Program was established at Brandeis University in 2007 to honor andcontinue the work of Eli Segal, who is best known for his leadership developing AmeriCorps and Welfare-to-Work initiatives in the Clinton Administration and for his talent for inspiring and mentoring young people. The Program, housed at the Heller School's Center for Youth and Communities, honors his legacy, the continued dedication of his wife, Phyllis, their partnership in getting things done, and a commitment to developing new generations of citizen leaders. The program works to:• Encourage emerging leaders to engage in a lifetime of citizen service• Serve as a platform to promote citizen leadership• Extend the extraordinary contributions of Eli J. & Phyllis N. Segal by inspiring and enabling new generations of citizen leaders. Our Network:The Segal Program expands each year as new cohorts of fellows are added through the Eli J. & Phyllis N. Segal Citizen Leadership Fellowship awards at Brandeis University (including undergraduate students and Heller School Master's in Public Policy students), AmeriCorps Alums, City Year, the Corporation for National and Community Service, and Service Year Alliance. Current Segal Fellows provide a guiding hand to future generations of Segal Fellows – providing an opportunity to give back by mentoring others in much the same way that Eli Segal did for so many. The Citizen Leader Summer Internship is designed to provide new Segal Fellows with an opportunity to develop their skills and competencies as citizen leaders while working within an organization addressing complex social issues.
