The Elphinstone Review Journal is a student-led undergraduate research journal named in honour of the University's founder, Bishop Elphinstone. We showcase the very best academic output that students at The University of Aberdeen can provide. Our editorial goal is to publish articles written by undergraduate students, predominantly from the schools incorporating the Arts and Social Sciences. We aim to publish twelve papers each year, selected from the submission put forward by students, and reviewed by our editorial board. Each year one article is chosen to receive a prize for best overall article.Our editorial board is composed by honours and postgraduate students within the University of Aberdeen. A call for papers is sent in late October or early November, with a deadline set for January. Year after year, the number of submissions has increased, with the total number of articles reviewed by the editorial team last year reaching seventy-three. Each article chosen for the journal is assigned to an editor who will work closely with the author to polish their article for publication. The finished articles are then put together by the head editors, who proofread and format the final version before it goes to print in May, when we also have a launch event.The Elphinstone Review has received overwhelmingly positive feedback from collaborating students and staff. The journal benefits the University as much as it benefits the students and is an asset that contributes to the University's ethos of quality research and academic excellence, as well as to the pool of opportunities offered to its students. Its academic nature and high standard of publication provide the students with first-hand experience of the world of academic publishing. This experience is offered to students either in the form of editorial work or through publication. Consequently, each year around twenty students gain solid and marketable experience in editing and publishing.
