The Federation of Thai industries(F.T.I) was established on 13 November, 1967,having been formerly known as The Association of Thai Industries(A.T.I).It was founded by 27 founding industrialists who elected Mr.Thawee Bunyaket as the first President. The logo of the A.T.I. was conceived for the first time for the registration of its by-laws with the Department of Commercial Registration, Ministry of Commerce under the Trade Association Act. It was a design made up of three moving cogwheels embracing the initials A-T-I which stands for the Association of Thai Industries.(Pronounced in Thai as Sor-Or.Thor. The latest move to the present site was made on 19 December 1995 which is Zone C,4th Floor,Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre, New Ratchadaphisek Road, Bangkok. Over twenty years of its early life, the A.T.I. was able to fill many key roles which were well recognized by both government and private sectors. It was trusted to act as the representative of the Thai industrial businesses of the whole kingdom, including acting as the voice of the private sector component in the Joint Public Private Sectors Consultative Committee for Solving Economic Problems (JPPCC) chaired by the Prime Minister. On 28 December 1987 the government legislated "The Federation of Thai Industries Act,1987" which took effect at its printing in the Royal Gazette resulting in upgrading the former A.T.I. to F.T.I. – the Federation of Thai Industries(F.T.I.) which came under the supervision of the Ministry of Industry.
