Arts & Crafts - , New York, United States
Anthony P. Willis Fatato was born in New York City on December 20th, 1974. His childhood fascination with the arts eventually led him to attend the School of Visual Arts on a full scholarship. He later completed coursework at both the California Institute of the Arts and the Art Students League where he further developed his technical skill and his respect for tradition. Inspired by European masters, and the ancients, Anthony's work is a unique blend of romanticism and realism. His style and subject matter range from observations of gesture, and more abstract vignettes of every-day life, to complex compositions with narratives surrounding ancient iconography and mythology. His interest in preservation of society, and myth, is partially informed by ancient cave painters, who imbued their home societies with a sense of life purpose and dharmic duty. Driven by an intense appreciation for both the human form and the natural order of the Universe, Fatato explores the potential range of interactions between the two. CURRENT WORK & INTERESTS Artistic works of late examine the creation and destruction cycle, in narratives with theoretical contexts. Fatato explores the catastrophic results of man when driven by his base animalistic instincts, juxtaposed with his insight into the potential for limitless beauty, coming from harmonizing and collaboration. Fatato's efforts in bringing about collective effort, translate to his work inside of his own community as well. His non-profit organization the World Education Endeavor connects individuals without resources to a wide variety of educators in the Red Hook neighborhood of Brooklyn, and beyond. He frequently opens his studio as a space for exhibitions, and classes, in order to help foster networks of artists in the neighborhood. Through his efforts as an educator, a husband, a community organizer and an artist, Fatato's work celebrates diversity and reflects the necessity for social responsibility and productive change.
