Nonprofit Organization Management - Nairobi, Nairobi County, Kenya
The Flying Doctors Society of Africa (FDSA) is a membership organization in East Africa that was set up to raise funds through the sale of memberships, partnerships and soliciting donations in order to spread medical outreach across the continent. Our memberships are in two categories, temporary (covering 2 weeks and 2 months) and annual (covering one year). Currently, the Society has around 11,000 temporary and annual members across the world. The primary benefit of our membership is a free unlimited aeromedical evacuation and 2 (two) ground ambulance evacuation in - Kenya for the duration of the person's membership.By becoming a member, one not only insures their own life and that of loved ones, but they also changes and saves many other lives as well. All unutilized membership contributions go towards supporting our Surgical Outreach programme which also helps restore dignity to women suffering from Female Genital Fistula (FGF).16 years ago, we took a keen interest in providing access for fistula treatment as part of our surgical outreach intervention with the hope of seeing a fistula free Kenya. This intervention strives to reduce the effects of an untreated fistula to women such as stigma, discrimination, isolation, poverty, psychological disorder and family breakdown enabling the women to contribute to the community's growth. FDSA is raising awareness for fistula treatment through our various scheduled camps across Kenya to offer free surgeries, building medical capacity through training of local specialist gynecologists, community health workers, and anaesthesiologists. When you treat a woman with fistula, you change not just one life but many lives as the African woman is the cornerstone of the community.
