The Foundation for Gender Equality (FGE) is dedicated to creating an urgent call to action on behalf of women and girls globally. Its strategic goals include developing new pathways to accelerate change, expanding opportunities and removing obstacles women and girls are facing around the world. Simply put, FGE will help women and girls advance by fostering fresh collaborations and identifying practical, sustainable and successful programs that can be replicated. Through its ongoing outreach, FGE is committed to finding and supporting those great grass-roots initiatives that are already making a difference for women and girls, and by extension, their families and communities. The Foundation is a designated 501(c)3 organization and celebrated its first-year milestone recently. FGE brings all of the enthusiasm and optimism associated with a start-up to its efforts to empower women and girls. FGE leadership is undertaking an expansion of its Board of Directors; seeking individuals to actively participate by attending and providing executive counsel at quarterly board meetings and by supporting events and programs.Through creative programming, FGE (http://www.foundationforgenderequality.org/) is injecting energy, innovation and new voices to the critical issues that are impacting women and girls' development, which include:Violence and abuse;Economic disparity and lack of empowerment;Reliable access to quality healthcare;Opportunities to participate in educational opportunities; and,Inclusion of men and boys in achieving gender equality. Thus far, two signature programs have been held. The first was a spectacular day for women, which took place on May 17, 2016 at United Nations headquarters in NYC. "A Call to Action for Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment" was the title for a three-part program: a groundbreaking conference, benefit luncheon, gala dinner and celebrity concert. These events were the culmination of a deep collaboration with UN Women, the UN organization dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women. UN experts, global advocates, film and sports stars gathered to exchange perspectives. Feedback on all aspects of the program was outstanding.During the course of developing that program, a network of experts, celebrities, champions, outstanding organizations and supporters were identified. That base continues to grow and on April 25, 2017, the first independent program under the Foundation's auspices was held in NYC. "Gender Equality: The State of Our Union" was a provocative and compelling event and a resounding success. Valerie Jarrett, senior advisor to President Barack Obama and Amy Ziering, award-winning and documentary film producer, led the roster of outstanding honorees and advocates. These events enable FGE to increase awareness and raise funds. A portion of the proceeds from each program has been designated to support outreach at selected charities that FGE has identified as having outstanding initiatives that support women and girls, including UN Women, Camp Hope New England, Digital Citizen Fund and paws4people.On November 30, 2017, the Foundation will present "Man-Up: Straight Talk & Inspiration From Allies and Advocates" at the Paley Center for Media, NYC. The program will focus on defining men's roles in achieving gender equality and feature well-known leaders and trailblazers from a variety of backgrounds, including business, entertainment, government and sports.
