WHO WE ARE"Free Soil, Free Labor, Free Men" was a rallying cry of the civil rights movement. In the same vein that those who worked the soil deserved to be free, it is the belief of the Free Soil Arts Collective that those who come from underrepresented populations, have the right to tell their own stories.The Free Soil Arts Collective is an interdisciplinary arts organization serving the greater Merrimack Valley in Massachusetts. Our mission is to create and support artistic works that amplify and strengthen the voices of underrepresented communities. This program is proudly supported by funds from the Greater Lowell Community Foundation. WHAT WE DOWe produce engaging arts experiences through the development of plays, extracurricular programming, facilitated workshops, and events in the following areas: Theatre | Music | Dance | Storytelling | Playwriting | PoetryWHY WE ARE HERE Founder Christa Brown is an actress, storyteller, and content creator based in Lowell, Massachusetts. Often having to travel to Boston for consistent work, she saw a need to create and promote art that accurately reflected the richness of the community in which she lived. Independent research so far indicates that the Free Soil Arts Collective is the first theatre organization of its kind in the Merrimack Valley to be led by a Black woman.
