The Frida Cinema is an independent, non-profit art house cinema located in the heart of Downtown Santa Ana's exciting and bustling arts district. Dedicated to enriching, connecting, and educating communities through the art of cinema, The Frida Cinema is a program of the 501(c)(3) organization Long Beach Cinematheque. The Frida Cinema meets its mission daily by providing audiences with opportunities to experience contemporary independent cinema, as well as film classics, on the big screen; by curating special events that incorporate film with live music, multimedia art, and presentations and discussions; by collaborating with independent organizations and theatres in shared community events; by supporting with collaborative screenings the efforts and dreams of student filmmakers; and by expanding the boundaries of what a cinema can offer by offering art shows, poetry and spoken word presentations, and other eclectic performance-based experiences to its audiences. The Frida Cinema and Long Beach Cinematheque also regularly program outdoor cinema experiences, most notably the popular "Lola's Retro Outdoor Cinema" series at historic Sunnyside Cemetery. In 2014, The Frida Cinema was honored with the Readers Choice Award as the Best Indie Film Theatre in Orange County.
