The Glen is a residential Aboriginal Therapeutic Community for men experiencing alcohol and drug dependence. Located on the Central Coast of New South Wales, The Glen sits on pristine bushland, which clients describe as calming and tranquil. The Glen was established in 1994 and has been a shining example of the triumph of the Koori and the human spirit for the past 24 years. The Glen's program is designed to treat a client in a holistic manner to address their issues, treating the person as a whole (spiritually, mentally and physically). Indigenous values are adopted throughout The Glen's program, evident through the strength-based approach which shows clients what they can do, not what they can't do.During the first 12 weeks, clients are offered group work, individual counselling, case management, educational support, acupuncture, work programs, sporting activities and various specialised counselling services such as grief and trauma, financial, gambling, parenting and anger management. After the first 12 weeks, in the transition program, clients are supported to obtain qualifications, build work skills, reconnected with their families and to find suitable employment and housing.The delivery of the program is made possible through The Glen's community connections. In a recent QIP accreditation report, The Glen was described as the "fabric of the Central Coast community" working with over 40 local organisations to deliver The Glen's program.
