The Global Peering Forum (GPF) builds on an effort started by multiple commercial organizations over 15 year ago. GPF is an independent, non-profit organization designed to advance the business interests of individuals involved in peering and interconnection. As of June 2016, GPF is an incorporated entity with an initial board of directors, ratified bylaws, and is in the process of applying for 501(c)(6) recognition from the U.S. IRS as a non-profit business league. The current board consists of representatives from seven past GPF host organizations and two external, globally-operating interconnection participants.
