The Handloom School is an entrepreneurial program for young handloom weavers, aiming to create a new generation of artisans capable of succeeding in the global marketplace.In their late teens, thousands of rural weavers are already highly skilled and earning money to support their families. They have tremendous potential, but no team, no captain, no ‘identity' in the market and very little hope for the future.Scattered across the villages of India, these fine young crafts people need a face in today's global market and the skills to interact with that market directly, bypassing exploitative middle men. The Handloom School will skill them to make the most of their heritage, to deal directly with the market, to understand market trends and to value their rich heritage. And to be very proud of themselves.Graduates of The Handloom School will transform a sunset industry into a strong sunrise story for India and for the world, without migrating to big cities and without abandoning their heritage.
