The Highbrow Project (T.H.P) is an academic enrichment program designed to help young scholars reach their short term academic and long term occupational goals as well and to support schools in revitalizing and rebuilding communities. This project is based on the premise that if it takes a village to raise a child, it will take the entire community to help that child reach their full potential. To paraphrase W.E.B. Du Bois, "The underserved like all disadvantaged groups, is going to be saved by its exceptional men and women. The challenge of education, then, among the underserved must first of all deal with the Talented Tenth. It is the challenge of developing the best of this group that they may guide the masses away from the contamination and death of the worst, in their own and other groups. Excellent men and women who impact their communities and their world, we shall have only as we make personhood the object of the work of the schools-intelligence, broad sympathy, knowledge of the world that was and is, and of the relation of our students to it-this is the curriculum of that Higher Education which must underlie true life." At T.H.P, we aim to create curriculum to support that "Higher Education which underlies true life!"T.H.P curriculum includes activities that support teachers, counselors and all levels of educators in facilitating meaningful, well organized conversations that engage students at their level in conversations about their desires for their futures and the many possible paths to their goals in life. This project aims to take the curricular "work" out of conversations about the future and creates small, manageable projects that lead students toward developing their individual potential and assists teachers in guiding students in the right direction for the future they desire; while opening the lines of communication with parents.
