The History Council Details
The History Council - 501(c)3 nonprofit organization - aims to enhance knowledge of people, places, and events of historical significance of the Florida Suncoast region, from Fort DeSoto to Tarpon Springs (including Dunedin, Clearwater, St. Petersburg, Tampa, Bradenton, and sister municipalities). Our aim is to collaborate with others to redefine Florida's Suncoast as a cultural heritage destination, to herald important stories rarely told, and share them with the general public for their enjoyment and education.Long-term objectives of The History Council include funding original research; publication of books and brochures; and encouragement of the City, County, and State to afford greater recognition to stories not widely known. In order to capture imagination and enthusiasm of students, residents, and visitors of the Suncoast region, interesting and significant stories should be promoted and presented in ways that will be engaging. The telling of history relies on the creation of monuments, markers, printed guides and booklets, and using current technology.
