Hospitality - Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India
The House of MG was built by one of the city Fathers and it wonderfully represents the colonial heritage architecture of the early 20th century, replete with courtyards and verandahs, overflowing with greenery. The superbly restored property has thirty-seven rooms, two hugely popular restaurants and it's truly unique features are a gallery showcasing traditional textiles, jewellery and silver from the Mangaldas family collection and a special play section dedicated to children. It prides itself as a children, single lady traveller and elderly friendly hotel.Mahatma Gandhi was a guest in this property on his return from South Africa in 1915, which even then was staffed by locals from neighbouring villages. Today this property celebrates local craftsmanship and cuisine, and embodies responsible tourism offering exceptional Gujarati hospitality in an ambiance that feels like home.
