Fund-raising - Erie, Pennsylvania, United States
The Idea Fund supports early entrepreneurial development with priorities given to women, minorities, and veterans through funding and mentorship in order to facilitate economic opportunities that reach all parts of our community and beyond.Currently, there are three initiatives under the umbrella of the Idea Fund: Quickstarter - an initiative that brings Erie County college and university students together with entrepreneurs to provide targeted assistance to move their crowd-funding projects forward – providing specialized services at NO COST to the entrepreneur. This program began in 2013, and was created by Kris Wheaton at Mercyhurst University. FB: @quickstarter2013II. Innovation Erie - a competition that encourages local inventors and creatives to submit product concepts that have commercial potential. In addition, a series of Industrial Design workshops where industry professionals provide introductory instruction are offered. This will be its 9th annual event - innovationerie.org III. The Starting Line Competition - a competition designed for entrepreneurial ventures without a financial track record -- the budding entrepreneur -- the purist form of a start-up. The competition, now in its second year, starts in October. There is an opportunity to earn up to $5,000 in cash & more. This competition is designed to attract applicants that want to bring solutions to our community's challenges. The competition is open to any individual 18 and older residing in and with the intent of commercializing, growing and maintaining a business in Erie County. Our objective is to invest in people by providing opportunities and funds to help fill the 'development gap'—the lack of money and resources available to transform ideas into young companies that could eventually attract Angel Investor (AI) or Venture Capitalist (VC) money.
