The vision of The Learning Spectrum (TLS) is to provide families with individualized services designed to meet the needs of children in and out of the school setting. TLS provides naturalistic programming for children with autism spectrum disorders based on the premise that behavioral intervention and immersion in the natural environment are the keys to establishing learning behaviors in students. The Learning Spectrum stresses work in the areas of core need found in individuals on the spectrum including: self-management, language and learning, and most especially social skills. Michelle Garcia Winner's Social Thinking components are stressed alongside all learning activities presented and help serve as a catalyst to develop these skills in our students. TLS also works with the child to teach appropriate ways to deal with frustration, and ways to make needs and wants known. Self-control / self-management are important to the program and teaching student's to find their own mechanisms to achieve this is emphasized daily. Generalization across environments and people is encouraged by varying the instructors and types of interventions, as well as the setting. Consistent redirection is used for inappropriate behaviors and an established behavior management program is implemented and used consistently across the team. As Autism Scholarship providers, The Learning Spectrum is able to create individualized education programs as well as work within a student's IEP to help meet specific educational goals. The Learning Spectrum has a central location of Worthington and branches in the North (Sunbury), the South (Canal Winchester) and currently opening a new location in the East (Newark). Additionally, TLS offers support in inclusive settings including daycares, pre-schools and public/private schools. The overall goal of all intervention is to help children grow and prosper in their natural environments.
