The Linden Center is a nonprofit mental health residential and day treatment program which serves children and adolescents with severe behavioral and emotional problems, of racially and economically diverse backgrounds throughout the greater Los Angeles area. Established in 1980 by a group of psychiatrists, special education experts, psychotherapists, and social workers, The Linden Center began as a one classroom school and one residential home for six children. With the rapidly growing demand for the Linden Center's services, the one classroom became 7 classrooms in addition to its residential facilities.The Linden Center is widely recognized as one of the highest quality facilities of its kind anywhere and is licensed and certified by the JCAHO, State of California Department of Social Services, the Los Angeles County of Mental Health, and the State of California Department of Education.The Linden Center currently serves 55 severely emotionally disturbed and learning handicapped youths referred by 8 surrounding school districts to it's schools and 24-hour residential program.The mission of The Linden Center is to meet the emotional, behavioral and learning needs of special education students and at-risk youth, and to provide an array of services that will culminate in successful transition to less restrictive living and educational environments, employment, lifelong learning, and quality of adult life.
