Established in 1967, The Milton S. Eisenhower Symposium is a widely acclaimed lecture series sponsored by the Johns Hopkins University. The Symposium is designed to present issues of local, national, and global importance to the university and its surrounding communities. Having gained a reputation as a forum for the free exchange of ideas, the Symposium invites speakers with incisive analysis of issues at the forefront of the nation's conscience. All events are free and open to the public.The Symposium is run entirely by undergraduate students at Johns Hopkins University. The Chairs, selected each year by the school's student council, are responsible for choosing a theme, securing speakers, raising necessary funds, recruiting other student volunteers, and publicizing the series. The Symposium is the university's premier event for the fall semester, attracting renowned politicians, public servants, private visionaries, and important intellectuals to Hopkins' Homewood campus.
