Taking its name from a centuries-old Anglo-American political philosophy, the Modern Whig Institute uncovers pragmatic, actionable and innovative public policy based on the fundamental American principles of representative government, ordered liberty, capitalism, due process and the rule of law. We offer a home to both ordinary citizens and qualified experts who believe we are at our best when we join together in a spirit of mutual respect, comity, cooperation and service to the common good. We embrace compromise. We believe in civility. We also believe in the power of community and the ability of voluntary associations, like ours, to improve the world around us. We are committed to creating a brighter, more prosperous and more secure future for the generations to come, and to serving as an independent and unifying voice for all Americans. To that end we facilitate the creation of common sense solutions at all levels, from our local communities on up, through our Forums and Roundtables. The participatory model they represent reflects our faith in the capability of our fellow Americans, no matter their background, to shape the country they've inherited into the nation they deserve. At all times we are driven by our central animating conviction: We believe in an active, responsive and responsible government which energetically exercises its legitimate grant of authority from the People, but whose power is ultimately limited by the Constitution which created it; and we are unalterably committed to its defense."The preservation of the sacred fire of liberty, and the destiny of the republican model of government, are justly considered deeply, perhaps as finally, staked on the experiment entrusted to the hands of the American people." (George Washington)[The Modern Whig Institute is an independent, nonprofit, member-supported 501(c)(3) civic research and education foundation.]
