Having avoided lifetime in a wheelchair through the practice of the ancient Chinese arts of tai chi and qigong (pronounced chee-gong), Keith Brewer, the monk without the funk, is today not only mobile and healthy, but also thriving well past expectations. In turn, he has devoted himself to helping fighters, athletes, and others recover from injuries and chronic ailments through these same methods, as backed by modern medicine.Tai chi and qigong have been shown to increase speed, power, endurance, and reflexes, as well as the mind-body connection that is critical to faster recovery. The slow, mindful movements calm the mind and break the stress cycle. Group practice of tai chi also enhances team cohesiveness and synergy.Keith Brewer also teaches martial arts and workshops in tai chi/qigong with his wife in partnership with the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in Chicago, where he is currently studying for his doctorate.
