The Murfreesboro Backyard Company was founded in 2015 to better serve the lawn and landscaping needs of the booming town the enterprise called home. Benjamin Adams grew from a one-man-band and scrappy entrepreneur into a well-seasoned and determined professional in the space. He oversaw the purchase and acquisition of products and equipment totaling over $30,000 in his time as "Chief Backyard Officer," along with providing work opportunities to over 30 high school and college students over five seasons in the game. Adams proved to be high achieving with this endeavor while balancing preemptory school coursework and leadership on baseball squads, but not all days at MBC were glamorous. Many days after class, on weekends, and throughout breaks, Adams and Co. would load up, work until dark, and wrap up with product transportation for landscaping projects the following morning. Adams oversaw over $100,000 worth of work in his years of lawn and landscape maintenance, and was able to turn a considerable profit before he could even vote. While most community-minded entrepreneurs start off behind the engine of a mower, Adams turned this enterprise into an engine that granted him opportunities, lessons and grit few college-educated individuals bring into their first years in the workforce.
