We seek to promote the pro-bono culture in Nigeria and facilitate an intentional system that organizes relevant resources and stakeholders to support socially vulnerable, poor, indigent, and disadvantages members of Nigerian society to access legal aid and services. To achieve its aims, the Clearinghouse links such persons to lawyers and law firms willing to participate and help. We also seek to steer lawyers towards embracing a pro-bono culture as part of their practice ethics.The Clearinghouse will act as an intermediary between people or organisations needing legal assistance and lawyers or law firms willing to assist. It will also serve as a resource centre to facilitate the easy uptake of pro-bono activities and will provide practical tool-kits for law firms, NGOs, and individuals.The project's first efforts will be in Kaduna, Osun and Sokoto State and will widen at a later time. The focus is on pertinent issues such as gender-based violence, child abuse and land dispute matters. The focus states will be serviced by a National Clearinghouse in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory, which will sort through cases and place them on several pre-determined tracks.
