Music - N/A, MD, US
Founded in 2013, The National String Symphonia (NSS) strives to be the premier professional string orchestra in the United States. The idea for the NSS grew out of conductor David A. Fanning's discovery that an extensive body of outstanding compositions for string orchestral performance was being neglected at the professional level. Maestro Fanning has compiled a collection of well over 1,000 of these works.A group of 40-50 professional orchestral string (violin, viola, cello, and bass) musicians performs a diverse array of pieces – some solely for strings, others featuring instrumental soloists, vocal soloists, or choral groups – for a continually expanding audience in the greater Washington, D.C. area and beyond. The performance plan is to begin with one concert in season 1, to take place in spring 2014. The second season will consist of two concert blocks, each to be performed in two different venues – in fall 2014 and in spring 2015. In season 3, there will be two concert blocks – one will involve two concerts; the other will be expanded to include a third site – plus one collaborative concert (choir, e.g.). Home performance venues will be selected in Montgomery County, the District of Columbia, Frederick County, Baltimore County, and Northern Virginia.
