Nonprofit Organization Management - San Diego, California, United States
The purpose of this organization is to educate members on specific neurodegenerative diseases, their current treatments, and ongoing cutting-edge research as well as inspire members to support these causes by fundraising, volunteering, and raising awareness within the community.Founded in 2017, the Neurodegenerative Disease Awareness Association at the University of California, San Diego, is a student organization comprised of passionate individuals who are dedicated to contributing to the neuroscience scene not only on the UCSD campus, but furthermore, within San Diego as a whole. NDAA serves not only as an academic and educational resource for students to connect with others of the same interest, but even more as a platform for students to make a difference in the lives of patients affected by neurodegenerative diseases and neurological disorders. NDAA organizes volunteering opportunities with local organizations such as Parkinson's Association, ALS Society, MS Society, and Alzheimer's San Diego, to name a few. Additionally, NDAA strives to spread knowledge and spark interest in the minds of younger generations by holding outreach seminars at the middle and high school levels.NDAA encompasses a broad spectrum of fields, ranging from Cognitive Science to Biology to Psychology and anything (and everything) in between. The one thing that all these fields have in common is a vivid and deep interest in the intricacies of the brain. Brain health is a global and pressing matter within our society. The fact of the matter is that neurodegenerative diseases are ruthless; everyone is at risk, yet there are no cures. Though UCSD is a hotspot for neuroscientific innovation, brain health is stigmatized on a societal level and access to treatments is limited with the current level of research available. NDAA is devoted to change this. Progress starts with NDAA.
