Media Production - New York, New York, United States
The Open Mind Legacy Project produces the "Open Mind" - the longest-running nationally broadcast public affairs program in the history of American public television. The program airs weekly on over 100 stations across the United States. First broadcast in May 1956, this "thoughtful excursion into the world of ideas" across politics, media, technology, the arts and realms of civic life currently originates from CUNY TV Studios and airs on PBS stations. Its creator, Richard Heffner, was host until his death on December 17, 2013. In 2014, Alexander Heffner, Richard Heffner's grandson, took over as the program's host. Recent guests have included public heavyweights such as Bill Frist, Bernie Sanders, Gary B. Pruitt, John I. Jenkins, Carolyn Lukensmeyer, Mitchell Baker, Biz Stone, Sue Gardner, Aloe Blacc and Aasif Mandvi. In May 2016, the program entered its 60th season.
