The Pinhole Project is an artful expression of vintage meeting technology in the form of a mobile art studio, gallery, and modern learning facility within and around a 1963 Ford E100 Van.This van will be outfitted to transform into a camera body that the artist works within.Pinhole photos and Camera Obscure Images (COIs) will be manipulated as they are taken using techniques and hardware designed by Portland-based artist Donovan Pierce and then transferred to digital media to be further manipulated as print or digital collage. While many different techniques will be used to varying effect; one of the principal elements of The Pinhole Project is in the technique of transferring images from tangible means into digital space for manipulation — then back into the tangible by way of silkscreen, photographic papers, print and projection.Simple science now comes face to face with the most current reaches of the computer and various peripherals; software, scanners, projectors, storage devices, file transfer, social media, wireless networking, printers and more. The Pinhole Project will be a journey of discovery and exploration.Introducing, refining and changing techniques will all be done for the educational benefit of the audience as Mr. Pierce makes his way around the Northwest and beyond, teaching his techniques to young and old alike.
