Energy - Bellingham, WA, US
We are a North American nonprofit organization that promotes oil and gas pipeline safety through education and advocacy, increased access to information, and partnerships with residents, safety advocates, government and industry, resulting in safer communities and a healthier environment. The Pipeline Safety Trust came into being based on the efforts and recommendations of SAFE Bellingham and the families of Liam Wood and Stephen Tsiorvas who were killed along with Wade King in a tragic pipeline explosion that occurred in Bellingham, WA in 1999. SAFE Bellingham – a grassroots watchdog group concerned with pipeline safety – and the families fought for better pipeline oversight and accident prevention measures. These Bellingham residents made it their number one priority to organize a perpetually funded oversight organization to ensure safer pipelines nationwide. The Trust has accomplished many things since its establishment, and continues to work with citizens, governments, and the industry to achieve safer and more environmentally responsible pipelines. Our annual conference is held each fall and brings together a unique mix of people to tackle challenging questions and learn from one another. Our publications and website help local governments, individuals and communities learn about and act to achieve greater pipeline safety. Our congressional testimony and involvement across states and provinces offers a strong independent voice in the public interest for pipeline safety.
